preferably in Manhattan & cheap(ish)!

this will be my first time traveling to the City & paying for everything myself.. 

anyone have any suggestions on where to stay in NY?

1. butteronmyroll answered: i stayed at the gershwin on 27th and 5th. it’s pretty cheap and a great location. i stayed in a 10 bed dorm which brought the cost down too.
2. alexanderfrederick answered: Gramercy Park Hotel. Bowery Hotel. Standard Hotel. James Hotel. And if you can bear one stop on the L train to Brooklyn, The Wythe Hotel.
